Csaba FÜRJESI

Fürjesi was born in Salgótarján in 1969. He started his studies at the Art Department of the Teachers College in Nyíregyháza, which he continued at the University of Applied Arts in Budapest, at the Summer Academy of Fine Arts (Salzburg), at the International Winter Academy (Fayoum, Egypt), and in Robert Finger Graphics Studio (Vienna)

Csaba Fürjesi attempts at capturing time by creating an infinite space in his paintings. These spaces, however, are not real, but rather spiritual environments where his figures merge with animals and other amorphous shapes in a biomorphic way. His vivid colors are reminiscent of works of the Fauves and the German Expressionists. Fürjesi makes his harmoniously composed, sometimes romantically poetic dream world alive with wide, pastose brush strokes. His broad gestures originate mostly in his abstract images and in his ink drawings, whereas his stretched compositions also betray an affection towards graphics. When encountering his often engraving-like lines, one is reminded of Nolde’s religious woodcuts. The expressivity of his pictures reveal his deep thinking, which he sometimes depicts with using a grandiose style that may be called even a narrative one.
