Van Gogh’s 21st century clogs (Mini Essay on Gergő Tornyi's painting)

When looking at a paraphrase, one can’t help but contemplate the reasons and purposes…Paraphrasing an already existing image harkens back to old times, it recalls an earlier idea, concept or opinion, it reflects on ever recurring issues and topics. On the other hand, at the same time, it casts light upon the ever-changing nature of things, relations, circumstances and contexts, otherwise, there would be no place for alterations...

Mirror-portrait ~ Beyond the Petals

RichText.

Like in every other case, sculptress Veronika Tóth applied only natural material in this artwork as well. The first and most important feature of this remarkable mirror is the blurred transparency of the red poppy petals on it. When looking into this mirroring surface, the viewer faces the contradictory nature of these plants: while one film-like layer provides a vague yet visible reflection, moving towards the fringes of the plate, it becomes more and more opaque and finally it loses transparency whatsoever under the increasing number of the faded pinkish petals...

Time Metaphor

RichText.

“Lyrical conceptuality” may be the best expression that one can choose when describing Veronika Tóth sculptress’ delicate works. The strong concepts coupled with expressive artistic choices face the viewer with bewildering philosophical questions of existence, for instance with the nature of time...

Eight valuable artworks are waiting for their future owners

Tat Gallery has recently been entrusted with preserving eight works of art that are exceptional due to their cultural and their art historical significance.

The legal successor now intends to find a suitable public or private collection for the eight works either in or outside Hungary. Therefore, Tat Gallery is looking for committed partner(s).

Endless Blueness - Infinite Deepness

Anita Kántor’s huge canvas is untitled, which opens up the possibility of free associations. Owing to its size and the worn-out surface, it resembles flaking frescos or faded Antique wall paintings. The artist scratched and scrubbed the thick layers of paint over and over and applied a great variety of materials, such as oil, acrylic, tempera, pastels and pencils to the painting....

Sky? Pit?

Date/Subtitle/Tags

Andrea Gulyás’s Skypit I and Skypit II make up one pair. Connecting two pictures so different both in size and – seemingly – in subject matter may look unusual. Nonetheless, this is not the only confusing feature of these works.

One can associate these paintings with René Magritte’s works already at first glance. Their colors and their concepts are strikingly similar, besides, their naturalistic rendering of the unreal provides a tension which cannot be released. Gulyás uses hyperrealism in an interestingly manipulative way: in both works, she steps on the verge between plastic art and painting...

Disowning The Golden Calf

RichText.

Our gallery is proud to present an outstanding graphic art collection by Gábor Gellért, whose drawings and collages were created between 1960 and 1989. The ruthless transition from the soft dictatorship of the 70's to the new born capitalism of the 90's is delicately presented in his works, which strength lies in its honesty and subtle artistic details.
